Early morning shoots are not about the story of the trip but a time to be with my camera and to just react to the environment around me. Sometimes I just shoot unusual patterns, or streaks of light and shadow… it is about geometry, light and nothing. It is about the camera leading me… And, […]

We had to go pick up Tim’s ticket for the Ghibli Museum which he would visit on his last morning in Tokyo. The view was wonderful we could even see Fuji.
Easily the my least favorite thing on the trip…. the first five minutes were good and then all I could think about was “how do I get out of here”, there were no clear exits. And, that thought was followed by “if there is a fire, I’m not getting out”. Won’t EVER go there again. […]
Japan has some of the most interesting stores. The level of specialization in any item, I have not encountered elsewhere. A store devoted to pigment… and who thought this was would be interesting… well, Tim. And he was right. We wandered around the store reading the way the natural pigments were made, looking at their […]
This exhibit hall displays the Daigo Fukurya Maru or the”Lucky Dragon No. 5″ . This boat was fishing near the Marshall Islands on March 1, 1954 when the crew was awakened by a bright light and sunset like colors in the western sky. The US had detonated a hydrogen bomb 1000 times more powerful than […]
Photos – to give you some idea of the brilliance and high energy of the performance. I went as Tim recommended it. I will go again, because it was just so much fun. But next time I want front row seats, so I don’t have to work to shoot around heads. !
Evening – the Robot Restaurant Now you know this was Tim’s idea. We started with a “pre-show”. As I sat through that show all I could think about was how long the evening was going to feel! I watched a singer, not much younger than me and clearly in worse shape, try to dance and […]
Afternoon The afternoon was devoted to some shopping … a button and yarn store for me! I had visited Okadaya store before and purchased some buttons and the area devoted to buttons amazed me. The size must be the size of my family room and it is devoted to buttons!
Morning We did a walking tour of Kagurazaka area of Tokyo – a local shopping area. We didn’t buy much but walked past a red bean sweet specialty shop and stopped and tried the sweets, and buying some for later. They were sweet and very tasty. Also some interesting sidewalk art…
After shopping we all needed some substance…and we were very thirsty.. so on to a small local restaurant that had local music. Oh what a night, the music and musicians were outstanding and let’s just say the Asahi flowed. The musicians were all the top shamisen performers, and they were so friendly. The shamisen is […]
